War of the "Words".

My people, I really feel I need to address a couple of issues that are currently buzzing around Mr. Tom Cruise, like flies on....

That of his new love Katie Holmes and the almost infamous interview with Matt Lauer where the good 'ole Tom rants and raves about psychiatric drugs and the treatment of post-partum depression and how Brooke Shields dealt with hers.

Addressing the Today interview first...

Having not had the pleasure of actually seeing the interview, I felt I better read it before I put in my 10 cents worth.

Whilst I acknowledge that some of Mr. Cuise's comments were maybe a little arrogant, why get so upset with it?

The guy claims he has taken the time to read various reports on the use of Ritialin and he feels - and this is important - in his opinion that the use of mind altering drugs is not the best way to treat a mental illness. In essence he is saying that psychiatrists are battling one evil with another. I can't help but agree with him, but I am not going to stroll down that treacherous road as I really have very little knowledge on the subject - unlike Tommy boy...

My biggest irritation surrounding this whole "war of words" is that the man was giving his opinion. He was asked a question and he answered it. So you disagree with his opinion, or rather don't want to hear his comments... Change the channel for crying out loud! Turn the page!

Is the world so boring and peoples lives so uninteresting that they have to get wound up by a guy who acts for a living? He's an entertainer, he is entertaining to watch in a movie, and on the whole entertaining to listen to in interviews, but really, how much change are his comments REALLY going to effect? None?

And if parents are worried about their impressionable young children looking upto a man who spouts about such matters, then they should effect "parental controls" and focus their kids on things that they want their KIDS to watch!

In the end, I really feel that the whole matter is a publicity stunt of sorts... His movie in the first few days has been his biggest ever box office opening - case in point?

Even negative publicity is publicity and setting up a petition for people to boycott a movie, (P-LEASE!) and me using this blog as my own soapbox on the matter - are we not all slaves to his egocentricity? Food for thought?

As for the Katie Holmes thing...

Tom and Katie, I wish you both the best!

I feel very sad that some very sheltered individuals out there have not felt the joy of falling in love with someone...

Let me tell you, his reactions are not that over exaggerated.

I have the pleasure of being married to the most amazing woman in the world, and I have to say, in the beginning - and it is still fresh in my mind - when it dawned on me that I was in love, (and it didn't take too long either) I wanted to sing it from the roof tops, scream it from the highest mountain in the world and if I had had the platform, jumped on Oprah's sofa!

Are people so sad, lonely and jealous that when they see someone happy - and in Tom's case extatically so - that they think it a publicity stunt or that he has gone nuts?

Aren't we a little mixed up? Be happy for them and if you find it sickly - and I know some will - do as I mentioned in the first minor topic: turn off, change channel, don't buy the magazine or EVEN turn the page. The western world has so many choices and freedom to excersie those choices, you're not being forced to watch, listen or read this crap! So don't, if you don't want to.

Phew! I have to say, that feels much better!

Ladies and gentlemen of the internet surfing community... It has been a pleasure sharing these thoughts with you - should any of you have chanced upon this minor blog and exercised your choice to read it - but remember this is merely "the rear view on the world."

Until next time... that was The Weeks on the World!
